Howdy computertech
You might have heard of guest blogging, or perhaps tried it at a point of time for backlink building.
However, something has changed recently, and you should know about this. This might save a significant amount of your time in chasing to get backlinks.
To those who are uninitiated, read what is backlinks.
So, here is what has changed:
Recently, John Mueller (Webmaster Trends Analyst at Google) recently shared on Twitter, which basically meant backlink building via guest posting is not the best idea.
Here are his exact words:
The part that's problematic is the links -- if you're providing the content/the links, then those links shouldn't be passing signals & should have the rel-sponsored / rel-nofollow attached. It's fine to see it as a way of reaching a broader audience.
I do feel it is a big change, and you should not approach guest blogging for link building.
However, I'm not saying you should stop guest posting, as it still helps in building authority. The only thing you may want to do is, becoming an author on well-established websites, so that you build your online profile, and this helps.
Here is how you should approach guest blogging:
- Define the niche expert you want to be
- Find all authoritarian blogs in your niche which accepts guest post
- Become a regular author or contributor
Even if you are doing 2-3 guest posts a month, this will increase your credibility, authority and trust over time. In fact, it has a lot of SEO advantages, that I will perhaps share in the days to come.
Another way to approach is, you need to be smart with link building. Partner with other bloggers/guest posters and work more like a link exchange. (They post under their name, and build links for you, and you do the same.)
The point is, you need to maintain a natural looking link profile, and do not engage in anything which looks like paid, and not earned.
You got the point, right?
Anyways, link building is essential, but I believe a lot of you could do well just by posting high quality content, on page and on site SEO.
This will help you earn natural backlinks.
Fun fact: Here at ShoutMeLoud, all the links that we got, are earned link, by following the above principle; "Posting high quality content, On page and on site SEO".
And, I'm not talking about a few hundred links, it is whooping 334K backlinks (According to SEMRush)
Another website following the same princple, has earned 85K backlinks:
So, I know it works, and it works really well!
But, do not misunderstand me. You should not miss our the opportunity to build backlinks when you could, but do not sweat too much unless you have already followed these three principles.
"Posting high quality content, On page and on site SEO".
Success often comes knocking your door by doing the simple things on a regular basis. And, my above principle and result is a demonstration of that.
See ya in the next newsletter...
Ta da!
