Hey there,

Here's what's been going on in WordPress lately:

The road to WordPress 5.2 has officially begun! The first beta of 5.2 has just been released and it's ready for user testing. The official release is scheduled for April 30th, which means that you have one month left to report potential bugs or issues. Check out what's new.

Speaking of new versions of WordPress being worked on; the world of WordPress development tends to get busy. That's perhaps one of the reasons why there are more than 6,500 open issues in the Core Trac! Matt Mullenweg is trying to fix that by forming the WordPress Triage Team. Here's what this is about.

WordPress Translation Day will be held on May 11th, 2019. This is a 24-hour event that will gather all the polyglots from all around the world to help translate WordPress into their native languages. Check out how you can contribute.

There will be no dark mode for WordPress 🤷‍♂️ at least not via the official channels. Dark modes have been the craze of software development in 2018. It felt like literally every piece of software needed to have its own spin on the dark mode. I guess this started with Apple, but then all the other tech companies followed suit. Anyway, there was a movement to get dark mode integrated into WordPress as well. It fell short. Now the dark mode plugin is up for grabs.

The block editor has opened up some tremendous possibilities for users when it comes to building good looking pages in WordPress without having to know how things actually work under the hood. But still, getting started has its learning curve. An interesting new solution is to let users take advantage of some pre-made page templates created out of the default blocks available in the editor. Check it out.

Plus 13 more great articles from around the web... 🗞️
